Symphony Club of Waterford presents Defence Forces School of Music

The Defence Forces School of Music celebrates its 100th birthday in 2023.
The first public performance was given on 14th October 1923 at the Theatre Royal, Dublin under the baton of Colonel Fritz Brase and the combined bands of the Defence Forces will mark the anniversary with a concert at the SETU Arena, Waterford on Saturday 21 st October 2023 at 7.30pm in association with the Symphony Club of Waterford.
The Defence Forces School of Music is the nation’s largest employer of professional musicians.and provides musical support for state and military ceremonies and home and abroad, as well as major sporting events, concerts and recitals.
Joining the band as soloist on the evening will be internationally acclaimed tenor Gavan Ring, who has sung at the most prestigious venues and festivals around the world – from the BBC Proms to the Lucerne Festival.
The programme will include marches, overture, selections and band repertoire – traditional and contemporary. There will be a large Waterford representation within the band on the night, including both locals and musicians who graduated from the music degree programme in SETU or WIT.
The crowd favourite pipes and drums will also be making an appearance during the evening.
